It's also true that there's more going on in this than just everybody being faceless but the protagonist, but I've become very sensitive to that particular trope. See how many music videos have one person standing still in the middle of a moving crowd (hey buddy, you're not a unique and beautiful flower so much as you're obstructing traffic!). I know it wasn't completely intentional, and it was part of the story and not gratuitous like it usually is.
I actually do pay more attention to the other people on the bus and where we are rather than go off into my own little world... that's usually because I'm afraid I'll miss my stop otherwise!
A young girl living in a grey, monotonous, dystopian world daydreams herself into a colourful adventure under the ocean...
Selected for screening at The 2012 Student Film Festival London Winner of 'Best Drawn Animation' - Canterbury Christ Church University Animation Show 2011 Shortlisted for 'Best British Film' - Canterbury Anifest 2011
Created with a combination of Photoshop CS5 and After Effects CS5. I was aiming at developing a style of digital animation for myself that still looked fluid and organic.
Inspired by the fact that I almost always end up daydreaming about something or other when using public transport. Believe me though when I say as a Londoner - the Tube isn't really this bad, I promise!
Comments and constructive criticism are more than welcome! I'm always looking to improve my skills.
Finally - the greatest of thanks to Sophie and Patrick for their work on the sound and music, and to my wonderful friends and family for all of their support, without whom I'd have probably lost what little sanity I have.
Aaaw, thanks! I'm glad it gave you a bit of inspiration! The actual process of animating took me about 3 months, but there was a lot of planning and pre-production work that went into it as well beforehand. Animation is a time-consuming job, haha!
Haha! Oh, believe me, those three months were a very stressful three months! Most places don't expect you to make a 5 minute film all by yourself in that amount of time. I had an awful lot of nights with no sleep!
